Abstract

1346767 Producing fibre reinforced building boards C G BEVAN ASSOCIATES Ltd 22 June 1971 [7 July 1970 2 Nov 1970] 32917/70 and 52031/70 Heading B5A To produce fibre reinforced gypsum building panels having bores c extending therethrough, a dry mixture of gypsum, high alumina cement and fibres is formed in a mixing chamber 5, compacted in a mould 6 having bore formers 7 and subsequently, after removal of the formers 7, set in a tank 11 of heated water. The mixing chamber 5, supports 8, and the formers 7 vibrate with a vibrating table 9 to assist compaction of the dry mixture. A feeding device 1, fibre reels 4 and cutters 3 may reciprocate along the mould or a series of these may be provided along the length of the mould. The base of the mould is perforated to accommodate the bore former 7. After hardening, the panel is removed from the mould which is then recirculated. Collapse of the bores c during seepage of the water is substantially prevented by the fibrous reinforcements. Perlite, fuel ash, crushed stone, expanded clay aggregates may be incorporated into the dry mixture as fillers. The fibres may be glass, asbestos, sisal, polypropylene or wood, and, instead of or with the gypsum, anhydrite, Portland cement or plaster may be used.
