Abstract

1346224 Blow-moulding; flash removal CONDUCO AG 30 April 1971 [30 April 1970 24 Feb 1971] 12466/71 Heading B5A In a blow-moulding process, a deformable blank is fed to the mould at a first station and the mould is moved to a second station where the blank is blow-moulded and at least some of the flash separated therefrom while it is still in the blow-mould, the flash falling by gravity and being intercepted and conveyed along a first path while the article formed is conveyed along a second path after being released from the mould. As shown in Fig. 1, the apparatus comprises mould halves 3a, 3b, on platens 2a, 2b movable on guide rods 4a, 4b, the assembly being moved between a first station under extruder 9 to a second station under blowing mandrel 16, where the parison 10 is expanded into article 1 having a large neck 14. Neck flash 11 is severed and withdrawn by mandrel 16 from which it is stripped by lever (84, Fig. 4, not shown). A receptacle formed in two halves 17a, 17b each mounted on a mould half receives flash 11 when the mould is closed at the first station and releases it through shoots 19, 20 on reopening at the second station. Bottom flash 6 is engaged and preferably removed by cooled grippers 5 which lower article 1 on to conveyer 7. In the embodiment of Fig. 5, neck flash is formed by blowing and calibrating mandrel, the bottom flash being removed by relatively movable mould base part 27. It is caught by device 29 which is tilted on mould opening to deposit the flash through shoots 43, 44 on to conveyer 50 and into receptacle 55. Blown articles 1<SP>1</SP> are lowered through orienting device 45 on to metal sheet 48 and thence on to conveyer 50 by hydraulically operated pusher 56. If the articles are unsatisfactory, a gate (61, Figs. 9, 10, not shown) is inserted under device 45 and upon further mould movement, the article is deposited on the waste side of conveyer 50 and pushed into receptacle 55. Neck flash may be stripped from the mandrel by stripper bar (70, Figs. 7, 8, not shown) to fall through shoot 67 to shoot 44.
