Abstract

1346169 Valves GIRLING Ltd 19 April 1971 [26 March 1970 2 June 1970] 14998/70 and 26532/70 Headings F2V and F2S An hydraulic damper piston 10 defines an outer seat 20 for a resilient valve disc 18 which is a close fit on a central guide 14 providing an inner seat 19. When the valve disc disengages seat 19, it initially uncovers a ring of axial slots 22 in guide 14 and subsequently uncovers shorter additional slots (25) or, as shown, rectangular or part-circular section enlargements 23 of the slots. The disc eventually contacts the piston surface to prevent flow to annulus 24 from slots 23. This arrangement provides a resistance-velocity characteristic exhibiting zones of rapid increase in resistance with increase in piston velocity separated by a zone of lesser slope. Reverse flow is provided by the disc disengaging seat 20 and abutting stop 15. A bleed hole is provided in the disc at 21. The guide 14 can have location means ensuring alignment of the slots 22, 23 with the holes 16; alternatively, a sufficient number of slots is provided to ensure alignment with holes 16.
