Abstract

1345170 Collapsible steering columns CAM GEARS Ltd 19 April 1971 [8 April 1970] 16646/70 Heading B7H [Also in Division F2] In an axially adjustable torque transmitting assembly, particularly for use in vehicle steering columns, comprising inner 1 and outer 2 coaxial members, torque is transmitted between the members 1 and 2, and resistance to axial movement therebetween, is provided by balls 10, 11 arranged in transverse bores 12 in the inner member, which frictionally or interferingly engage the outer member. The outer member is non-circular in internal cross-section. The balls may be replaced by rollers or studs and shear pins may be provided to prevent inadvertant axial collapse.
