1345133 Modulating light PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 2 Oct 1972 [2 Oct 1971] 45281/72 Heading H4F To provide a liquid crystal layer of constant thickness, e.g. in a dynamic scattering electrooptic display cell, opposed plates (one transparent and the other transparent or reflective) are separated by elongate spacing means of constant circular cross-section. As described four plastics (nylon) or metal (tungsten) wires are laid near corresponding edges of the plates. Where the wire ends cross, one wire breaks, so that the constant spacing is maintained.
