The material may comprise superposed square woven fabric layers incorporating nylon threads, or superposed mutually perpendicular layers of cord fabric, its inner and outer surfaces being covered with layers of elastomeric or plastics material incorporating a weedkilling or rodent deterrent composition. Fenders to which the ties 8 are secured may be provided on the poles, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown).
