Abstract

1344811 Measuring angular acceleration electrically TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 15 Sept 1972 42820/72 Heading G1N An angular accelerometer comprises an annular conduit 32 filled with an electrically non-conductive fluid and having a barrier 37 in the conduit which thereby provides two ends for the conduit, there being a pair of Piezoelectric or Piezo-resistive elements 38, 39 provided one for each of the conduit ends and disposed adjacent thereto, the transducers being embedded in a ring 16 so that a face of each transducer is in direct contact with the fluid and responds to pressure variations therein. The ring 16 and another ring 17 are supported on a disk 18 having a hub 19 attached by torsion springs 22, 23 to an accelerometer frame 11 carrying a graduated scale 12 adjacent on index pointer 43 on ring 16. It is shown that the e. m.f. produced by such a Piezo-electric is proportional to the angular acceleration and the mean radius of the annular conduit. An arrangement having four barriers and four pairs of elements 13 applied to determining eccentricity of rotation of a drill bit Figs.3-5 (not shown).
