Abstract

1344649 Keyboards MARCONI CO Ltd 1 Sept 1972 [16 Dec 1971] 58577/71 Heading G4H A programmable keyboard arrangement includes a first member 1 with a plurality of discrete areas 2, each of which is arranged to produce a unique output signal when addressed by a probe 5, a number of the areas being light passive, there being at least two further members 7, 8, 9 providing by liquid crystal effect, when activated, labels for a number of the areas of the first member 1, activation of each of the further members 7, 8, 9 being controlled by a respective one, 2A, 2B, 2C, of the areas of the first member 1. Areas 2A, 2B, 2C control switch 12 to cause member 7, 8 or 9 to provide labels visible through the areas 2 of member 1, according as member 1 is to be used for entering characters, commands, or the position of a marker on a display. The areas 2A, 2B, 2C also control adjustment of a read-only store which codes the information entered by probe 5 and member 1.
