Abstract

1344623 Fluid-pressure servomotor systems DOWTY TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENTS Ltd 21 April 1971 [9 May 1970] 22498/70 Heading G3P [Also in Division F1] A variable-displacement pump or motor 1, e.g. of swash-plate type, is controlled by a hydraulic servomotor 3, the cylinder 5 of which has parts 16, 17, 18 connected to reservoir 8 and controlled by the servomotor piston 6 to arrest the movement of the servomotor piston at selected part positions according to the setting of valves 14, 19 and 21. In the pump embodiment shown, pump delivery pressure in line 9 is supplied to the servomotor via restriction 12 and line 13. With valve 14 open, line 13 is connected to reservoir 8 and piston 6 remains in its minimum displacement position shown. With valve 14 closed and valve 19 open, delivery pressure moves piston 6 to the left until it opens port 16, which vents the working space and arrests the piston. Closing valves 14 and 19 and opening valve 21 causes piston 6 to move to port 17, and closing valve 21 causes the piston to move to its maximum displacement position at port 1#. The displacement-control member 2 is biased by the swash-plate, or a spring, towards its minimum displacement setting. In Fig.2 (not shown), a relay valve is remotely, hydraulically controlled by selector valves corresponding with valves 14, 19, 21, to control ports in the servomotor cylinder corresponding with ports 16, 17, 18. The selector valves are operatively connected to valves for connecting the pump delivery to various loads requiring different pump outputs. The servomotor may include a control unit for automatically adjusting the servomotor setting to maintain a predetermined pump output or driving torque.
