Circulating and passing fluids through materials.-In moistening and conditioning apparatus for textiles, tobacco, &c. having liquid-spraying and heating means, a predetermined quantity of liquid is delivered through the sprayers so that the material has a definite proportion of liquid added thereto. The moisture is supplied by sprayers in which the liquid is atomized by compressed air, both being preferably under pressure, the liquid pressure being obtained and regulated by the means described in Specifications 109,220 and 121,203, [both in Class 69 (iii), Spray-producers &c.]. Either the liquid-pressure receptacle is filled to a certain height, or a fixed quantity of liquid is fed from the main receptacle to a supplementary receiver from which it is fed to the atomizer. When this liquid has been fed, the sprayers are put out of service and the temperature of the material reduced. The chamber a is preferably lined with felt and zinc and has jacketed walls. It is provided with duplex radiators, each traversing one end and half a side, while a fan i is mounted centrally. The sprayers comprise a water jet j and an air jet k. Filtered air is supplied through the pipe l and water from a pressure receptacle n through a tube m. Doors are provided in the end o.
