Abstract

1344295 Selective printing MEMOREX CORP 19 April 1971 [20 March 1970] 24391/7 Heading B6F Type-bond construction.-A metal bond is formed either by etching or stamping with a plurality of fingers 103 with bifurcated legs 113, a strip 119 which renders the bond substantially unstretchable and clocking means comprising a plurality of holes 105. A V-shaped projection 109 acts as guide means and is formed on the inner of two strips of plastics material 123 (127, Fig. 5) which sandwich the metal bond between them. In an alternative (Fig. 6), the V-shaped projection 109 is formed solely by crimping the legs 113. Metal type are spot welded to the fingers 103 and plastics type are injection moulded directly on to the fingers. The type-bond is housed in a cartridge (20, Fig. 7). The cartridge includes a recess for receiving the hammer assembly (136, Fig. 8) of the selective printer, and includes a sidewall portion (140) which co-operates with the V- shaped guide projection 109. The sidewall additionally includes magnetic guidance means (146) which comprises a strip of magnetic material (148) such as rubber impregnated with magnetized particles and coated with a bearing surface such as P.T.F.E. When the cartridge is placed in the printer, drive shaft (150, Fig. 9) acts against the biasing action of a spring (158) to lift the spool (138) driving and guiding the type-bond from its seat (154). In this lifted position the spool rotates about ball-bearing (162).
