Abstract

1344075 Delivering sheets MASSON SCOTT THRISSELL ENG Ltd 19 April 1971 [26 March 1970] 14854/70 Heading B8R Sheets cut from a slit web 1, Fig. 1, by cutters 2 are conveyed by conveyers 3, 4, each comprising bands which each comprise a plurality of laterally spaced tapes, to the upper end 5 of a concave guide member 6, along which they pass with deceleration producing overlapping, and against which they are held by centrifugal force. At the lower end of the member 6, the sheets pass between the bands of slower conveyers 8, 9, which feed them to a stack 10. Overlapping may be produced on entry to the conveyers 3, 4 by faster rollers 20, 21. For longer sheets, the upper left hand roller of the conveyer 8 is raised so that the sheet is engaged at the position of additional rollers 11. In another form, Fig. 2, the upper end of the member 6 is extended in the form of fingers passing between the tapes of the conveyer 3 and secured to a cross-bar 14 connected to rods 15 slidable in bearings 16 and to the piston-rod 24 of a pneumatic cylinder 25 while the lower end of the member 6 is secured to a frame 17 carrying the conveyers 8, 9 and pivotable about a pivot 18 by a pneumatic cylinder 19. For longer sheets, the bar 14 is moved to the left and the frame 17 pivoted downwards to a horizontal position to increase the effective length of the member 6. In both forms a high speed roller 22 produces a flow of air which keeps the sheets flat and prevents the leading edges lifting from the member 6.
