Abstract

1343252 Aerosol adhesives RHONEPOULENC SA 8 March 1972 [9 March 1971] 10858/72 Heading C4X [Also in Division C3] A pressure-sensitive adhesive is obtained by heating a mixture of 40-70 wt. per cent of a resin A consisting of units R 3 SiO 0À5 and SiO 2 in the ratio 0À45-0À9 : 1, wherein R represents Me, Et or Vi, at least 70% of the radicals R being Me, and 30-60 wt. per cent of a polydiorganosiloxane B of viscosity 10<SP>2</SP>-10<SP>7</SP> cP/25‹ C., having terminal OH groups and Me, Et, Vi or Ph organo radicals, at least 80% of these being Me in the presence of an organic peroxy compound C. Preferred units R 3 SiO 0À5 in A are Me 3 SiO 0À5 , Me 2 ViSiO 0À5 and Me 2 EtSiO 0À5 , and preferred units in B are Me 2 SiO, MeViSiO, MePhSiO and Ph 2 SiO. Suitable peroxy compounds are benzoyl, 2,4-dichlorobenzoyl, dicumyl and di-t-butyl peroxides and t-butyl perbenzoate, 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-di-t-butylperoxyhexane and OO-tertiary butyl-O-isopropyl percarbonate. Preferably the peroxy compound is added to a mixture of a 30-75% solution of A with B and C and optionally extra diluent, the mixture having 40-80% solids, and the mixture is heated under reduced pressure, e.g. to 100- 190‹ C. at 2-30 mm. Hg finally. In the examples the resin A has 0À75, 0À55 or 0À8 Me 3 SiO 0À5 units per SiO 2 unit (with 5% Me 2 ViSiO 0À5 in Example 3), the polymer B has viscosity 1000- 10<SP>6</SP> cP/25‹ C. and units Me 2 SiO (with 0À6% MeViSiO in Example 3), the peroxy compound is OO - t - butyl - O - i - propyl percarbonate or benzoyl peroxide or dichlorobenzoyl peroxide in silicone oil, and the reaction solvent is toluene or xylene; the products are applied in solution in cyclohexane or as an aerosol in C 2 F 3 Cl 3 and CF 2 Cl 2 .
