Abstract
1343112 Bolting GIRLING Ltd 28 May 1971 [14 April 1970] 17602/70 Headings F2H and F2E A caliper member 10 of a disc brake is coupled to a torque plate 12 by a pin comprising a stud 32 having threaded portions 34, 36 of different pitches which respectively engage in a threaded bore 33 of the torque plate 12 and an internally threaded portion 30 of a sleeve 26 surrounding the stud, the stud being turned to axially preload the sleeve against the torque plate 12 to improve the sleeve's resistance to shear stress. The threaded portion 36 of the stud is necked at 37 to shear at this point when a predetermined load is reached during the pre-loading of the sleeve. The caliper member 10 is axially slidable on the pin. Specification 1,299,433 is referred to.
