Abstract
1343077 Halogenated poiyoxadiazoles IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 8 May 1972 [14 May 1971 19 Nov 1971] 14873/71 and 53814/71 Heading C3R The invention comprises halogenated polyarylene - 1,3,4 - oxadiazoles which have a greater resistance to burning than the unhalogenated polymers. They have repeating units of formula where R is an arylene radical, at least one hydrogen atom of radical R in at least some of the units being replaced by bromine or iodine, the halogen content of the polymer being at least 2% by weight. Either a previouslyformed polyarylene oxadiazole may be halogenated or an aromatic dicarboxylic acid may be halogenated and then reacted with a hydrazine salt to form the halogenated polyarylene oxadiazole. Examples are given. Uses.-Fibres and films.
