Brick-laying machines.-The bricklaying machine described in the parent Specification is modified to enable bricks to be laid from the outside of a building. The improvements comprise a non-rotatable and non-telescopic vertical girder structure 3, a cantilever arm 6 slidable vertically thereon, and laying-mechanism 34 which is only slightly adjustable on the cantilever arm; the chain or conveyer 8, feeding-device 13, and carriage are also modified. The vertical girder 3 is hinged at 4 to the carriage 1 so that it may be turned down for transport. The cantilever 6 is shifted vertically by screws 7. The endless conveyer chain 8 passes round drums 9, 10 and consists of links each provided with two spring plates 11 which grip the bricks. The bricks are fed to the conveyer from a box 12 by a ram 13 actuated by a motor 14 which drives a shaft 19 through gearing 15, 16, 17, 18, 20. The shaft 18 is telescopic. The shaft 19 drives another horizontal shaft 23 through the gearing 22, and shaft 21. The shaft 23 carries a cam 24 which engages a spring-pressed lever 26 connected to the ram 13. To ensure registration between the bricks and the links of the conveyer chain, the lower drum 9 can be adjusted by worm gearing 84 driven through a clutch 87 from the shaft 19. The bricks are then carried to the laying-mechanism which consists of two sides or cheeks 28 having rollers 29 resting on the cantilever 6. an adjusting-screw 31 for positioning the sides 28 on the cantilever, and a depending frame 34 with drums 35, 36 round which pass the laying-chains 37. The two chains are provided for building double walls. The bricks are transferred from the conveyer chain to the laving-chains by rods 49 pressed by springs 51 and connected by a crossbar carrying arms 52 which engage cams 47. The cams are mounted on shafts 39, 40 operated by pinions 45 on a transverse shaft which is driven from the shaft 16 by gearing 43, 42. The laying- chains are operated by a crank-disk 54, link 55, and ratchet-wheel 58. The bricks are ejected from the chains by rods 63 carried by a bell-crank 65 and operated by a foot 62 reciprocated by a link 60 from the ratchet lever 56. The carriage 1 is propelled on the rails 2 by a pinion 75 driven by ratchet gearing 72 operated from the shaft 19 by spur gearing 66. The pinion 75 is mounted on the spindle carrying the carriage wheels and preferably engages a rack 77. It can be slid on a helical key by a lever to adjust the machine with the bricks on alternate courses. The carriage may be propelled uniformly by chain gearing 79, and the clutch 80 is then disconnected. Mortar is supplied by a pipe 91 from a tank 89, which is fed by a pipe 90 from another tank 88 on the cantilever frame.
