Abstract

1342701 Plastics tubes; winding mandrel KAKUICHI SEISAKUSHO KK 2 May 1972 [17 Jan 1972 (2) 27 Jan 1972] 20413/72 Heading F2P A reinforced flexible pipe comprises a tubular wall 3 formed of a soft synthetic resin material and a reinforcing spiral core 2 of a harder synthetic resin material having a substantially I-section (defined in the specification as including a core having upper and lower legs interconnected by an inclined web or an upper leg of semi-circular section which is interconnected by an inclined web to a lower leg provided with a rib) and partly exposed out of the wall of the pipe. The pipe is formed by helically winding a strip of soft synthetic resin material having a reinforcing core as above (Fig. lb, not shown) on to a hollow mandrel 5 supported at one end in a frame 4 and having a longitudinal slit 6 in its periphery and rollers 7, 8, 9, 10, inside. An endless belt 11 is obliquely wound around the mandrel 5 at an angle substantially equal to the pitch angle of the strip helix and passes in through the slit 6 around the rollers 7 to 10 and out again through slit 6. The roller 7 is driven and drives the belt 11 and the roller 10 acts as a tensioner for the belt. An end guide 23 acts on the ede of the belt to prevent axial movement thereof. The mandrel 5 can be replaced by a series of rollers arranged the form of a cylinder (Fig. 10, not shown). The strip material is fed direct from a forming device 12 tangentially on to the rotating belt 11 and is wound helically thereon and fed axially therealong. Adjacent lateral edges of the strip are welded together to form the tube wall and the strip is cooled by spray 25.
