Abstract

1342022 Disposable pants CONSORTIUM GENERAL TEXTILE DEPARTEMENT PANSEMENTS WILLOT 19 April 1971 [2 April 1970] 25589/71 Heading A3V A pair of disposable pants is adapted to receive an absorbent pad 9, e.g. a baby napkin or a sanitary towel, and comprises a sheet of plastics material or non-woven fabric cut to define spaced first and second parallel bands 10, 11, respectively intended to constitute the rear and front parts of the pants, and a connecting band 7, defined by arcuate cuts 4 and intended to constitute the crotch of the pants, a layer of adhesive material being applied along each of two opposed edges of one of the bands 10, 11 and a protective strip being provided to cover each layer, in use, the layers, upon removal of the protective strips, serving to connect the front and rear parts of the pants together. Cuts 8 may be provided in each band 10, 11 to define straps 8a for retaining the pad 9. The layers of adhesive material may be provided by adhesive tapes 2 secured along the opposed edges 10a, 10b of the band 10, each tape having a single adhesive surface and being attached to the band such that it projects beyond the associated edge 10a, 10b. Alternatively adhesive tapes may be used which each have two adhesive surfaces of which one is secured to the band such that the tape does not extend beyond the associated edge of the band. In a further embodiment a layer of adhesive is applied directly to the band along each of the two opposed edges. In all cases the protective strip is made wider than the layer of adhesive material it covers. The edges of the band 7 adjacent the cuts 4 may be elasticized. The pants may be made by advancing an elongate sheet of plastics material or non-woven fabric continuously through a machine which applies the adhesive material to the two opposed longitudinal edges of the sheet, and then passing it to a cutting station where the sheet is cut into sections and the cuts 4 and 8, and cuts denning the bands 10, 11, are made for each section.
