Abstract

1341829 Cassette recorder MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 22 Dec 1970 [23 Dec 1969 4 March 1970 18 June 1970] 60967/70 Heading G5R In a tape cassette recorder, the cassette ineludes a pair of tape reels 2, 3 each having a flange 2<SP>1</SP>, 3<SP>1</SP> or both flanges extending through a side wall A of cassette case 1 where they can be engaged by drive wheels in the recorder. On insertion in the recorder erase and record/ playback heads 23, 22 enter aperture 8 in side B of the case and are held in contact with the tape 4 by head pad 38, capstan 24 engages the tape at pinch roller 7 and a spring roller 40 enters a V- shaped notch 10 in the cassette side A to move a brake roller 13 out of contact with reel flanges 2<SP>1</SP>, 3<SP>1</SP>. Belts 25, 26 transmit drive from motor 27 to capstan 24 and also to the shafts 18, 19 which can be selectively coupled via idler wheels 20, 21 to flanges 2<SP>1</SP> or 3<SP>1</SP> for forward drive or rewind. The reel flanges can extend through opposite or both long sides of the cassette and can overlap in the cassette, the cassette can be arranged to operate with twin capstan or rotary head recorders. In addition a brake roller can engage both reel flanges or can be moved into engagement with the flange of the non-driven reel.
