Abstract
1341740 Laminated products SOC CHIMIQUE DES CHARBONNAGES 7 May 1971 [8 May 1970] 13782/71 Heading B5N A composite vibration absorbing structure comprises a layer of an elastomer composition bonded to at least one substrate, the composition comprising a polymer of a bicycle [2,2,1] heptene-2 compound (i.e. a polynorbornene) and for each 100 parts by weight of polymer, 300- 700 parts of a material compatible with the polymer and having a boiling point above 80‹ C. and a freezing point below - 30‹ C. and containing no ethylenically-unsaturated compounds. The substrate may be steel, aluminium, copper, concrete or plastics and the polymer may be of units of general formula where A is H, C 1-14 alkyl or alkoxy, -O-COCH 3 or -COOR (R is C 1-14 alkyl) and B is H or, when A is -COOR, B may also be -COOR. The polymer may be partially vulcanized and may contain carbon black, cork or vermiculite as filler. The material of boiling point above 80‹ C. and freezing point below -30‹ C. may be an aliphatic or alicyclic ester or an aliphatic, aromatic or naphthenic hydrocarbon. The elastomer may be extruded between two substrate layers and bonded thereto by means of heated pressure rollers optionally with the use of an adhesive or a layer of the elastomer covered with a protective sheet comprising polyethylene, an aluminium-paper laminate or a silicone-coated paper may be bonded to a single substrate. The laminate may be coated with a curable adhesive and may be folded, ribbed or stamped.
