Abstract

1341654 Toys, e.g. toy boats PLAYART Ltd 2 March 1972 9881/72 Heading A6S [Also in Division H1] A battery powered toy or model in which the battery compartment is formed as a cylinder comprises at least two telescopically inter-engaging or testing tubes, a first tube being located in the body of the toy and carrying a first electrical switch contact and a second tube carrying a second switch contact, the arrangement being such that rotation of the second tube on or in the first tube causes the contacts to engage so as to operate the motor of the toy. As shown, a toy boat is powered by an electric motor 5 having its positive terminal 72 engaged by a contact strip 60 also in engagement with the positive terminal 62 of a battery 38. A first tube 40 contains the battery, and the negatve terminal 74 of the motor 5 is engaged by one end 50 of a contact strip 48 which extends the length of the first tube and has its other end 54 extending over and part-way down the outside of the first tube. A second tube 18, simultating the funnel of the toy boat, telescopes over the first tube 40, and carries a contact strip 22 engaged through a compression spring 28 with the negative terminal of the battery 38. The second tube 18 is formed with a radial spigot 30 at its lower end which can be passed through a slot 36 in the boat superstructure by pushing the second tube downwards. On rotating the second tube 18, its spigot 30 latches under a lip 32 in the boat superstructure to hold the tube in position, and simultaneously the contact strip 22 engages the contact strip 48 to complete the circuit from the battery 38 through the motor 5.
