Abstract
1341361 Vehicle transmission CMI CORP 13 Jan 1972 1681/72 Heading B7H [Also in Division F2] A vehicle, for use in road construction equipment is powered by an engine 24 driving the variable displacement pump 26 of a hydrostatic transmission also having a variable displacement motor 38 and a fixed displacement motor 40 these driving the wheels 16 of the vehicle via gearing, a shaft 100 and chains. The embodiment shown has two such transmissions, controlled electrically by circuitry 224 (Fig. 9, not shown). A pedal 264 for control of the transmissions is shown in Fig. 8 and comprises potentiometers 302, 304 operated in turn as contacts 306 and 308 respectively move along them when pedal 264 is depressed to move the linkage. The voltage on the brushes is used to adjust pump and motor displacements. A mechanical pedal operated control for the vehicle with one transmission only is shown in Fig. 4, two cam discs (one, 114, is shown) rotating due to a crank 110 operated by the pedal firstly adjusting pump displacement (by member 32) and then motor displacement. A yet further pedal is also described (Fig. 13, not shown) wherein a first, toe operated, bar is depressed to alter pump displacement for forward drive and a second, heel operated, bar, alters pump displacement for reverse drive both bars operating a common lever having cable connections to the pump and motor. It is also possible to have separate controls (Fig. 12, not shown), separate foot pedals for forward and reverse and levers for control of a two-speed gearing which may optionally be included in the driveline, the motor displacement and the engine governor (engine speed normally being constant during operation).
