The pressure roller mounted on the second shaft is provided with axially-spaced annular grooves to accommodate the pins of the pinned discs and axially-spaced lands which are each in contact with a corresponding spacer disc on the horizontal shaft. Upon inserting the tape a into the musical box the plate 7 is urged upwards against the spring 27 when the tape makes contact with the member 25. This allows the pinned discs, which are held in their rest position by the comb-like end 24 of the plate 7, to rotate freely. At the same time the tape also causes the contacts of a switch to close such that the motor which drives the shafts is turned on.
