Abstract
1341041 Continuous casting machines ASHMORE BENSON PEASE & CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [6 March 1970] 10829/70 Heading B3F [Also in Division F4] Continuous casting apparatus comprises a mould 31 arranged with its cavity axis horizontal, a tundish 1 having rollers 19 and 21, wheels, slides or the like on which it is supported and which permit it to be displaced relative to the mould, and force applying means 37 engageable with the tundish to urge it towards the mould. The tundish has openings 9 for molten metal and a burner respectively, a nozzle 15, and a bracket 25 having an aperture 27 through which a crane hook can pass. The tundish is lowered into position by a crane, a layer of cement applied to the inlet end of the mould and the tundish urged towards the mould by the hydraulic jack 37. To remove the tundish, it is lifted slightly by the crane so as to pivot it about the roller 19. This breaks the cement seal and causes the outlet of the tundish to swing downwardly, thus emptying any metal remaining in the tundish into a ladle positioned below the tundish.
