Abstract

1340995 Potentiometers; component assemblies BOURNS Inc 10 May 1972 [10 Jan 1972] 21705/72 Headings HIS and H1R An instrument supporting device 10, formed from a glass fibre filled thermoplastic synthetic resin material for detachably supporting an instrument I such as a potentiometer, in an aperture in panels of various thicknesses comprises resilient, outwardly extending cantilever limbs 10x, 10w, 10y, 10z, integral with the body portion 10c at a location rearward from the rim 10f, which limbs upon insertion into the aperture are forced radially inwards and are accommodated in longitudinal slots 10e such that the stepped free ends engage the rear of the panel due to stresses tending to return the limbs outwards. The steps are formed along arcs of circles of greater diameter than the diameter of the aperture such that only the edge portions E 1 , Eg engage the panel. One set of limbs 10z, 10x may be formed with steps having different spacing and inclination from those of another set 10w, 10y so as to accommodate a greater range of panel thicknesses. An external ridge 10n is formed on the body to engage a complementary notch in the aperture and thereby orientate the device and instrument, the instrument being retained by adhesive or by fastening pins on the instrument mating with key holes 10k. Terminal leads are accommodated in a central aperture 10p.
