Abstract
1340242 Head supports BURROUGHS CORP 17 March 1972 [28 May 1971] 18216/71 Heading G5R A support system allows a head to follow undulations in a record surface by rising/falling/ rocking, as required. In the arrangement shown, a magnetic head 11 and plate 13 are mounted at the free end of a leaf spring 14 which is fixed to a static plate 15; plates 13, 15 are interconnected by a staff 16 journalled in recesses 17, and by a tension spring 18, and the head is biased towards a card record 20 by an adjustable compression spring 21. The head is thus able to rise/fall owing to the ability of the spring 14 to bow, and also to rock about an axis 19 owing to the spring's ability to twist. In each case, staff 16 pivots in its bearings. An arrangement is also described (Fig. 2, not shown) for moving the head relative to a flat record, and additionally one for movement relative to a curved record (Fig. 3, not shown).
