Abstract

1339732 Extruding R A CREUZET 7 Dec 1970 [8 Dec 1969 3 Dec 1970] 57950/70 Heading B3P An extrusion head comprises a control needle 13, Fig. 5, supported on spaced bridge pieces 25 1 , 25 2 , 25 3 , 25 4 , Fig. 2, which are spaced from the die aperture 10 to define a chamber in which the metal separated by the bridges can be united before extrusion. The sides 27, 28 of the bridges converge to ridges 31 and the bridges are supported on an annular body whose inner surface converges towards the extrusion axis 16. The chamber thus pressurizes the metal which may be a light copper-aluminium alloy to weld the separated parts together. The extruded product may be a tube or a hollow section. The number of bridge pieces may vary from one to several dozen. Specific compositions are given of copper-aluminium alloys.
