Abstract

1339210 Plasma substitute KYORIN SEIYAKU KK 29 Dec 1971 [21 Aug 1971] 60496/ 71 Heading A5B A sterile, pyrogen free, aqueous solution containing 5.8-6.2% W/V of hydroxy ethyl starch having a degree of substitution of 0.5 to 0.6 and an intrinsic viscosity of 0.08 to 0.14, and containing sufficient inorganic and/or organic adjuvants (e.g. sodium, potassium and calcium salts, lactates and glucose) to ensure an ionic balance with blood and a pH of 6.2 Π0.5 may be used as a blood plasma substitute. It may be prepared by treating a solution of HES having the same degree of substitution but an intrinsic viscosity of 0.28 to 0.30 with an acid having a physiologically acceptable anion (e.g. HCl), adding appropriate adjuvants, sterilizing and removing pyrogens, e.g. by treatment with Raney nickel.
