Abstract

1338652 Making turbine-bladed rotors; welding by fusion; soldering MOTOREN-UND TURBINEN - UNION MUNCHEN GmbH 19 April 1971 [24 March 1970] 23357/71 Headings B3A and B3R [Also in Division F1] A method of making a gas turbine rotor comprises high temperature brazing each blade 1 to a root part 2a or 2b and electron beam welding the root part to the periphery of rotor 3. Each blade 1 may first be secured in an aerofoil shaped slot in the respective root part 2a or 2b by braze 4 and the root parts are then welded one after the other to rotor 3 using electron guns disposed on one or both sides of the rotor, the direction of the electron beam (SR) being indicated in Fig. 3 (not shown). Alternatively, all the root parts 2a, 2b are first welded to the rotor and then blades 1 are brazed to the root parts in a single operation using furnace brazing. Adjacent root parts may be welded together at 7.
