Abstract

1338614 Liquid dispensing system TOKHEIM CORP 20 April 1971 10244/71 Heading A4T A fuel dispensing system is capable of operating with (a) remote automatic pre-set control allowing customer to take a predetermined delivery, (b) remote automatic fill control allow delivery determined by customer, e.g. to fill a tank and (c) conventional manual control at the dispenser. The system comprises a valved nozzle dispenser Fig.3 (not shown) having a remote control apparatus 31, Fig.1 with motor-pump 15, Fig.5 in series with a meter driving a computer including a register having resetting means on shaft 27, inter-connected to nozzle boot retaining lever 19, driven by reset motor 73, and pulse generating means for each register increment e.g. a magnetic read switch actuated by register lowest wheel and firing a transistor pulsing a remote resettable transaction counter 51, Fig.1, a cumulative counter under the lid of the remote control console 31 (59), Fig.2 (not shown), and when used to pre-set the delivery, a count-down on a pre-settable counter. 37. The nozzle line contains a solenoid pilot valve 83 for hydraulic servovalve 238 and a slow flow solenoid valve 85, Fig.4. To effect a pre-set delivery, the remote attendent in view of the dispenser and in communication with the customer, selects the console control column, say that below 51, Fig. 1 for the particular dispenser and actuates two position switch 89 predispencing a console circuit for preset operation, depresses switches 45-49 a requisite number of times to send pulses to three pairs of inter-connected stepping switches, one of each pair forming counters 39-43 of register 37 on which the amount is pre-set and depresses switch 65 to zeroize transaction counter 51 having stepping coils and switches similar to counter 37, to close a motor pump circuit, open the slow and pilot valves and activate the pulse generator. On release of switch 65, the dispenser is readied for customer operation and ready lights appear at the dispenser and console. The customer removes the nozzle from the boot, turns lever 19, 90 degrees to rotate cam 170 and, through lever 172, close switch 71, 217 energizing reset motor 73 zeroizing the computer register via gearing 174. Cam 170 allows pawl 186 to drop and engage lever 180, and as lever 180 rides up reset driven cam 176, lever 184 opens switch A, 69 to stop reset motor, closes switch A, 75 to start pump 15; C, 77 to light pumpon console lamp 81; and B, 79 opening solenoid pilot and slow flow valves 83, 85, so that on opening the nozzle valve hydraulic valve 238 opens. When the last unit is to be dispensed, the circuit allows the pilot and hydraulic valve to close and the last unit is dispensed via slow valve 85. As dispensing occurs the meter operated computer totals the quantity and cost at the dispenser, the read switch pulses actuate the remote stepping switches to indicate the cost on register 57, to totalize on the cumulative counter and to count down to zero on the pre-set register 37 the zero contact of the switches disenabling the dispenser. The console circuitry contains a normally closed switch 87 which stops or restarts the dispenser in emergencies by closing the hydraulic and slow valve. For automatic filling determined by the customer, switch 89 is moved to disconnect the pre-set counter 37, the attendant zeroizes and readies by depressing switch 65 and the customers' dispensing is started and registered as before on the dispenser register and the remote register 57. For normal manual operation of the dispenser a switch (91) inside the console is operated to cut out relay control of resetting and allows sole control by turning lever 19.
