Abstract

1338427 Photographic material AGFAGEVAERT AG 25 June 1971 [26 June 1970] 29880/71 Heading G2C A light-sensitive photographic material contains at least one silver salt and a silver salt reducing agent of the formula: - wherein: n is 0 or 1; R 1 to R 6 (inclusive) each represents hydrogen or an alkyl group having up to 9 carbon atoms (e.g. methyl) or R 3 and R 4 or R 4 and R 5 are joined together to complete a 5, 6 or 7 membered carbocyclic ring which ring can contain a double band and/or which can be substituted by alkyl groups having up for 4 carbon atoms; R 6 may alternatively represent an alkoxy group having up to 6 carbon atoms or a tertiary amino group of the formula: - wherein R 7 and R 8 each represent an alkyl group having up to 6 carbon atoms or together represent the ring members of a 5, 6 or 7 membered ring (which ring may contain an oxygen atom or an additional nitrogen atom): R 9 and R 10 each represent hydrogen, alkyl or alkoxy groups having up to 6 carbon atoms, or hydroxyl groups (at least one of R 9 and R 10 being hydroxyl): and R 11 and R 12 each represents hydrogen, an alkyl or alkoxy group having up to 9 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl group, an aralkyl group, an aryl group or a group of the formula:- wherein R 7 and R 8 have the meanings already indicated. The material may comprise a lightsensitive silver salt (e.g. a silver halide) which is exposed developed in an alkaline bath and then fixed or stabilized. The material may be used in the silver salt diffusion transfer process wherein after exposure the material is contacted with an image receiving layer containing development nuclei whilst in an alkaline bath. In an alternative form the material comprises a lightinsensitive silver salt e.g. silver saccharide, silver 5-chlorosalicylic aldoxine, silver 5- nitrosalicylic aldoxime, a silver salt of a fatty acid having up to 30 carbon atoms (silver stearate, silver palmitate or silver behenate) or the silver salts of aliphatic carboxylic acids containing a thioether group, and a light-sensitive heavy metal salt which when exposed forms metal nuclei which are capable of initiating an imageforming redox reaction between the lightinsensitive silver salt and the compound defined above. Suitable light-sensitive salts are the inorganic or organic salts of silver, mercury or gold. The exposed material in this case is developed by heating to between 60 and 160‹C. Examples of suitable compounds falling within the above general formula as well as examples of other additives such as binders, sensitizers, stabilizers, hardeners, matting agents, support materials, pigments and toners are given. An example of a suitable image receiving sheet for the silver salt diffusion transfer process is also given.
