Abstract

1337842 FET logic circuits HONEYWELL INFORMATION SYSTEMS ITALIA SpA 19 April 1971 [12 March 1970] 23982/71 Heading H3T A variable-function logic circuit has field effect transistors 1, 2, 3 arranged to perform different logic functions (NAND or NOR) according to whether further F.E.T.'s 5, 6 are made conductive or not by a command signal E. If E holds F.E.T.'s 5, 6 off, then a series path exists from the supply V A through a load F.E.T. 4 and F.E.T.'s 3, 2, 1 to earth, so that if any of inputs A, B, C is low and its F.E.T. therefore non-conductive, the output E is high (+V A ) and a NAND function performed. If E turns on F.E.T.'s 5, 6, then F.E.T.'s 1, 2, 3 are effectively connected in parallel between U and earth. Thus if any of A, B, C is high to turn on its F.E.T. then output U goes to earth, and a NOR function performed. More transistors may be added (Fig. 8, not shown) to extend the number of inputs to the NAND/NOR gate. An exclusive -OR gate (Fig. 6, not shown) uses four of the Fig. 2 circuits, two of which are biased to act as NAND circuits and two as NOR circuits. Another exclusive-OR gate uses six NAND gates (Fig. 5, not shown). The load F.E.T. bias + V G is changed in accordance with E, to present the right impedance to the series and to the parallel circuits containing F.E.T.'s 1, 2, 3 in the NOR and NAND circuits respectively.
