1337646 Massage apparatus A SARSI 19 April 1971 [18 Feb 1970] 21318/71 Heading A5R A pulsatory massage apparatus comprises a substantially leak-proof massage element O, a compressor device C suitable to vary the pressure of the fluid in the massage element in synchronism with signals transmitted to an electro-pneumatic element A, an electromagnet E which is arranged to actuate the compressor device C, an electro-magnetic diaphragm pump P, a valve V, and a pressure gauge M. The compressor C comprises a piston Q which is displaced by a rod T when the piston is impelled in opposite directions by the electromagnet E and a spring S. A diaphragm N covers the piston Q and is secured in the joint between the two body members of the compressor device C; alternatively a bellows may be used. The length of the displacement path of rod T is adjustably controlled by a wedge B which can be displaced with respect to rod T by means of a screw W such that a projection D limits the downward path of rod T. The electromagnet E is energised through terminals G, H which receive electric current from an electronic assembly, the electronic assembly itself receiving signals from electrocardiographic electrodes which are applied to a patient which thus control the contraction of massage element O.
