Abstract
1337597 Preparation of di-n-butylheptadecanodicarboxylate BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 19 April 1971 [16 April 1970] 27025/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division C5] Di-n-butyl heptadecanodicarboxylate is prepared by reacting oleic acid with carbon monoxide and water in the presence of nickel iodide and carbonyl as catalyst, at from 100 to 400 atmospheres and at 200-300‹ C. to form the acid which is freed from monocarboxylic acid by fractional distillation, esterified with n-butanol, neutralized with dilute aqueous alkali, and the ester isolated by vacuum distillation. The catalyst may be formed in situ and the mono carboxylic acids removed by a falling film evaporator. The product is suitable as a heavyduty lubricant.
