Abstract

1337190 Aryloxy polyglycol ethers FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 14 June 1971 [15 June 1970] 27828/71 Heading C3R [Also in Divisions C2 and C5] The invention comprises compounds of the formula wherein the symbol R is one of the following groups or Y is either of the groups X is an ethylene or a propylene group with the proviso that the number of propylenoxy groups in each ether chain (X-O) n does not exceed n/5; the symbol R<SP>1</SP> is a lipophilic group; R<SP>2</SP> is a phenyl, phenoxymethyl, mono- or di- (C 1 -C 6 )alkylphenoxymethyl or halophenoxymethyl group; and n is an integer from 2 to 50. They may be obtained by reacting a compound of the formula wherein R<SP>3</SP> is a group of Formula II, III or IV or a group of the formula with a compound of formula Examples include those where n is 10, 15, 20, 23 or 30. They are useful as surface-active agents having little or no foaming tendency.
