Abstract

1337074 Alkenyl-2,5-norbornadienes SNAM PROGETTI SpA 19 April 1971 [22 Jan 1970] 20417/71 Heading C5E The invention comprises alkenyl 2,5-norbornadienes of the formula where R<SP>1</SP>=H or alkyl, R<SP>2</SP> to R<SP>8</SP> are each H, alkyl or aryl. The compounds may be prepared by:-(1) reacting a norbornene carbonyl derivative with a Grignard alkenyl derivative and dehydrating the resulting product; (ii) reacting a Grignard compound of a norbornadiene halide with an appropriate ketone and then dehydrating the alcohol formed; or (iii) the Diels-Alder reaction between a cyclopentadiene and an acetylene derivative containing at least one carbon-carbon double bond adjacent to the triple bond. Examples describe the preparation of (I) 2-(1<SP>1</SP>-propenyl)norborna-2,5-diene from norbornene-2-one and BrMgCH =CH-CH 3 ; (2) 2 - (21 - methyl - 1<SP>1</SP> - propenyl)norborna - 2,5- diene from 2-formyl-norborna-2,5-diene and the Mg Grignard derivative of 2-bromo-propane; (3) 2 - (2<SP>1 </SP>- bute - 21 - enyl) - 3 - methyl - norborno-2,-5-diene from cyclopentadiene and 3- methyl-hex-2-en-4-yne.
