Abstract

1336811 Fibrillar polyamide yarns MONSANTO CHEMICALS Ltd 4 April 1972 [14 April 1971] 9347/71 Addition to 1131282 Heading B5B Polyamide yarns are obtained by drawing a strand of an extruded foamed polyamide through a zone which is constricted with respect to the dimensions of the undrawn strand. The strand thus becomes oriented essentially in the direction of extrusion. This drawing is performed at a temperature between 50‹ C. and the melting point of the polyamide. The drawn foamed strand is then so treated that the walls of the foam cells are broken down to give a threedimensional structure of interconnected fibre elements. The preferred polyamide is nylon 6.
