1336804 Unsaturated polyester composition DIAMOND SHAMROCK CORP 22 Feb 1972 [16 June 1971] 8154/72 Heading C3P A thermosetting moulding composition comprises, by weight, a mixture of: (a) 20-60 parts of a polymerizable unsaturated polyester; (b) 20 to 65 parts of a polymerizable unsaturated monomer; and (c) 2 to 25 parts of a saturated thermoplastic polymer derived from the polymerization of a monomeric mixture of vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate and an ethylenicallyunsaturated monomer conforming to one of the structures: wherein R<SP>1</SP> is H, CH 3 , COOH or a phenyl radical and R<SP>2</SP> is H or COOH, with the proviso that R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are not each simultaneously a COOH group; R<SP>3</SP> is H or a CH 3 group; and R<SP>4</SP> is H or -OH. In the examples the compositions comprise unsaturated polyesters prepared from propylene glycol, isophthalic acid, fumaric acid, maleic anhydride, tetrahydrophthalic anhydride, bromine, ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol and neopentyl glycol; styrene; copolymers of vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, crotonic acid, methacrylic acid, fumaric acid, and itaconic acid prepared by polymerization in the presence of polyvinyl pyrrolidone, water, t-butyl peroxypivalate in mineral spirits diluted with methanol and polyvinyl alcohol; an organic ester of orthophosphoric acid, calcium carbonate, glass mat plies, calcium hydroxide, a dispersion of magnesium oxide in a low molecular weight thermoplastic resin carrier, magnesium hydroxide, calcium oxide, calcium stearate, clay, triethyl phosphate, antimony trioxide and chopped glass fibres and they are cured using t-butyl peroctoate and t-butyl perbenzoate.
