Abstract
1336769 Condensing steam generated by nuclear power ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AB 19 April 1971 [13 April 1970] 26739/71 Heading B1B [Also in Division F4] Steam generated by nuclear power and used to drive a turbine plant is condensed by leading it into the upper part of a casing 13 wherein are arranged a number of tube-bundles 12 through which a coolant such as lake or sea water flows from conduit 22 to conduit 25; the steam-condensate is collected in basins 18 and withdrawn through conduits 19 for return to the steam generator; and coolant inlet and outlet valves 26, 27 are provided for each tube-bundle so that if any coolant leaks out of a tube-bundle, that bundle can be put out of operation by closing its valves. The leakage of coolant into basins 18 is detected by test units 32, which may measure the conductivity of the water in the basins. The test units may actuate valves 26 and 27. The drainage of a basin through valve 29 may be initiated when the degree of pollution in the basin reaches a predetermined level; the drainage may also be controlled by the water-level in the basin. The condenser tubes may be horizontal; and the tube-bundles are supported perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the turbine (Fig. 1, not shown). One end of each tube-bundle may be freely movable in the axial direction (see Division F4).
