Abstract

1336565 Levels J I DAVIES and B JONES 9 Dec 1970 [11 Dec 1969] 60416/69 Heading G1F A liquid level comprises a transparent tube 22 mounted on a staff 12 and connected by a flexible tube 10 to a liquid reservoir 11, with a pointer 19 or a scale (34), Figs. 3 and 4, (not shown) longitudinally movable on the staff relative to the transparent tube. As shown, the staff is a square-section aluminium tube 15 with chamfered ends 16, and the transparent tube 22 has an integral longitudinal flange 23 by which it is clamped to the staff. A valve at the free end of the tube 22 or at its junction with the flexible tube allows retention of the liquid in the system during transport. The reservoir 11 has a closeable breather. In Figs. 3 and 4, (not shown) an endless flexible tape (34) passes round pulleys (35, 36) near the ends of the staff, one run of the tape extending through the tubular staff and the other run extending along a channel-shaped guide (33) on one face of the staff. The tape carries two scales extending in opposite directions from a common zero, at which point a plastics block (39) is attached to the tape to act as a grip for moving the tape.
