Abstract

1336106 Fishing reel T MIYAMAE 7 Jan 1972 871/72 Heading A1A A motor-driven fishing reel has a housing coupling member adapted to be secured to a fishing rod, a power unit, a speed change actuating unit, a power transmission unit, and a spool unit. Speed change can be effected through selective engagement of a pair of clutch elements 49, 51, adapted to transmit the input power mechanically to the gears 44, 53, respectively and a torque motor 11 can develop a higher torque at a lower speed. Prior to casting the fishing line a spline clutch element 70 is freed from engagement with boss portion 59 of double-geared wheel 57 through the use of a main clutch actuating means in order that spool shaft 60 can be freely rotated for paying out the line. The actuating means for the main clutch comprise three plates 63, 68, and 73, a tension spring 75 and cam means connected to clutch lever 83. When clutch lever 83 is pivoted a cam element 81, which is provided on disc member 80 for simultaneous rotation therewith and engaged in semi-elliptical recess 66, is caused to execute a limited eccentric rotation. Guide member 88 (not shown) stops plate from rotating but axial motion is permitted and this action causes clutch element 70 to be displaced along grooved portion 62 of shaft 60 and out of engagement with boss portion 59. After the casting operation is completed a fish bite signal means may be set in its active position by operating knob 85 to engage resilient click element 79 with serrations of click wheel 71 so that a clicking sound is produced as spool 75 rotates. For automatic reeling-in the main clutch means is connected by turning clutch lever 83 as soon as a signal is given. Clutch wheel 50 is set into engagement with high speed gear 53 or low speed gear 44 by operating change lever 21 and switch 16 is depressed so as to energise the torque motor. Input shaft 12 rotates and carries with it pinion 14, serving as a drive gear to actuate wheel gear 54 and clutch shaft 48. When changing from a low speed to high speed the change lever 21 is turned and cam shaft 29 is turned simultaneously imparting rotation to driver cam element 31. As a result, actuator 32 abutting againstcam surface 34 start to revolve pushing the latter forwardly, whereby follower cam element 33 is forced to move forwardly, compressing spiral member 37 which operates actuating plate 39, when compressed. In response thereto, actuating plate 39 is displaced forwardly against spring members 40, 41 and clutch element 51 engages high speed gear 53. In order to reduce the reeling-in speed the reverse operation is effected. In retrieving a hooked fish automatically, an anti-reversing ratchet means, which comprises a ratchet 58 on wheel 57 and a pawl 77 pivotally supported on shaft 78 for cooperating with ratchet 58, are always operative so that reversal of spool shaft 60 and the spool body is prevented. In order to prevent breakage of the line when the line is strongly pulled the spool body 95 can be allowed to rotate in the reverse direction, slipping about spool shaft 60, by manually loosening drag 90. This operation reduces the pressure on spring 92 and friction plates 93, 94 and the spool body moves out of cooperation with friction plate 98 which is engaged by click wheel 99 secured to shaft 60 by pin 100. On the spool body is provided a bracket member 96 for mounting click element 97, which cooperates with click wheel 99 to produce a braking effect on the spool when the drag is loosened. When changing over to manual operation the main clutch means is disconnected by operating clutch lever 83 and the speed change lever 21 is moved to a "neutral" position. If the anti-reversing ratchet means are required then the clutch lever 83 is not operated to disconnect the main clutch means.
