Abstract
1335677 Stop motions for textile machines NAHMASCHINENWERK WITTENBERGE VEB 11 Dec 1970 58933/70 Heading D1G [Also in Division G1] In a sewing machine a stop motion comprises a thread bobbin 1, Fig. 5, constructed with flanges 1' having a plurality of light areas 11 (e.g. the flange per se, see Fig. 6) and dark areas 3 (e.g. apertures in the flange) at which a continuous beam of light 12 from a light source 6 is directed. The arrangement is such that during normal bobbin unwinding a detector 7 will generate a sequence of pulses to maintain the stop motion inoperative. The detector 7 cooperates with an electronic switch circuit and control device which on interruption of the impulses when, for example, the thread snaps is effective to stop the machine. The stop motion can include a bobbin brake comprising a leaf spring secured at one end in the bobbin's housing and which carries a spherical catch at its free end so as to engage a further set of apertures 4 in the flange 1' when necessary.
