Abstract
1335634 Electromagnets COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 2 Nov 1971 [18 Nov 1970] 50775/71 Heading H1P Intense pulsating or continuous magnetic fields are produced by a stack of laminated conductors of Cu alloyed with Ag or Zr and P insulated by interleaved sheets of synthetic resin gripped between quadrangular armatures (Fig. 1) having discrete sectors 10 subtending angles of 3#/2 and #/2 and 11 separated by diagonals at right angles; the latter sectors overlapping electrodes 12 and connections 13 and the stack being clamped by plural insulated screws or studs 14 with recessed nuts (Fig. 4). Each lamination (Fig. 2), is alternately split at 22 along half diagonals AA, AA 2 , has a central aperture 25 and is castellated at 23, 24 along its edges; the stack being assembled so that the castellations are alternately staggered with interposition of pairs of similarly slotted insulated sheets intercalated to overlap the metal sheets inwardly and outwardly. They are inserted into the slots of successive metal laminations so that the latter are interconnected over #/2 sectors and insulated over 3#/2 sectors. The interconnecting sectors being displaced #/2 in succession to define a spiral conducting path (Fig. 5). An inner insulant plate 27 bears on the castellated projections and is sealed by elastomeric joint 28, and an outer insulant plate 29 is screwed to the lateral edges of armatures 10, 11 to define a casing through which deionized water is circulated through tubes 37, 32 to transverse the staggered castellations. Alternative orders of stacking are described (Figs. 8, 9, not shown) and coolant channels may extend throughout the stacks; overlapping obliquely staggered openings being provided through the conductor and insulant sheets (Fig. 6, not shown), or openings staggered between adjacent conductors for circulation parallel thereto (Fig. 7, not shown).
