Abstract

1335525 Trimming blow-moulded articles SOLVAY & CIE 3 March 1972 [3 March 1971] 10058/72 Heading B5A The bottoms of blow-moulded hollow bodies are trimmed by a device comprising a flexible blade slidably mounted adjacent the bottom of a blow-mould, means to displace the blade periodically along a path defined by guide means along the line defined by the intersection of the mould closure plane with the bottom of the mould. As shown in Figs. 1, 3, a series of moulds 1 mounted on rotary support 2 receive successively a length of a continuous parison from an extruder (not shown) for blow-moulding to article 17. Flash 23 formed is severed along the bottom of the article by a flexible blade 3 moving along a slot 4 formed by a groove (12, Fig. 2, not shown) in each mould half (14, 15), and also defined by metal insertions 13. Blade 3 is advanced by means of cam 5, follower roller 6, levers 7-9 and a blade carrier 10 which slides along rod 11. Blade 3 may have a bead (20, Fig. 5 not shown) to retain it in one of the mould halves. The bead may be notched (e.g. 21, Fig. 4, not shown) to retain flexibility of the blade. The blade may be either pulled or pushed along its path to effect trimming. The reverse stroke is effected by means of a further cam (not shown).
