Abstract

1334911 Gas discharge lamps V P ZHILTSOV J D PYLCHENKO E I GORSHKOV I A KURITSYN and N I MINKINEN 1 Sept 1971 40702/71 Heading H1D An electrodeless gas discharge lamp comprises a discharge tube 1 surrounding part of the length of a ferromagnetic core 2 consisting of at least one straight bar and having a field winding 3 disposed on the core and adjacent the discharge tube. Parts of the external surface are coated with a dielectric reflecting layer e.g. synthetic silicon dioxide. Initial ionization is produced by applying voltage pulses to external electrodes 7 and a discharge is initiated by a current pulse from source 6 through the resonant circuit comprising the winding 3 and a capacitor 5.
