Handles; fixing.-The blade of a spade or shovel, particularly an allwood spade, is attached to the handle or shank by a straight transverse slot in the end of the shank and a notch in the edge of the blade, a pin being passed through to secure them together. The hand-grip at the other end of the shank may be fixed in the same manner. As shown, the wood shank a is of square section, and the lower end is slotted at b to receive the wood blade c, which is notched at d to embrace the sides of the shank. A pin or peg driven through the holes g secures the parts to.- gether. The hand-grip h may be fixed in the same manner, as indicated.
