Abstract

1334524 Golf game J M PARK 7 April 1972 [16 Jan 1971] 34445/70 Heading A6H Apparatus for playing a golf game comprises a board 10 having three areas, a blank area 11 for the representation of a golf hole and two target areas 12, 13. The game also includes a golf club and distance chart (Fig. 3, not shown), a distance plotter 30 (Fig. 2), representations of objects normally found on a golf course to be placed on the areas 11 of the board 10, small discs or balls representing golf balls and counters acting as tiddlewinks. In order to play the game, a representation of a golf course is set up on the blank space 11 of the board. The representation may be an aerial photograph of a real golf course or may be made up by the players using model trees, greens, &c., in which case, the area 11 may be made of mastic and the models may be provided with spiked feet for pushing into the mastic. A player takes the distance plotter 30 (Fig. 2), places its pivot 34 on a representation of a tee (not shown) and sets the stem 36 along the direction he wishes his ball to travel. He then refers to the chart (Fig. 3, not shown) selects a suitable golf club, takes a pair of tiddlewink counters and attempts to flip one of the counters with the other from a fixed position on the board 10 into target area 13, which consists of an array of sunken cavities 29, each cavity being labelled by two letters as to row and column. The row (letters I to P) gives the deflection of the ball from its intended travel direction, and the column (letters A to H), on consultation of the golf club and distance chart (not shown), gives the distance which the ball travels. The flight of the ball depends upon in which cavity the flipped counter lands and is plotted by pivoting the stem 36 of plotter 30 according to the row of the said cavity using scale 32 and placing a small disc or ball (representing a golf ball) in the appropriate distance recess 38 of the plotter. This action is considered to be one "stroke" and "strokes" are made until the golf ball arrives at the green represented on the golf hole. The player then uses the target 12, which consists of a central sunken cup 28 (representing the flag) with concentric circles 27, and attempts to flip his counter into the cup 28 and thereby to "hole" his golf ball.
