- FOTBALL GAME.
` to the accompanying drawings;-
The invention relates to games and more particularly to a game of football embody-v ing a game board marked tocorrespond to a football field. It is an object of the invention to provide an interesting instinctive and entertaining game, the parts of which are simple and of such a constructionthat they may be. manufactured at a low cost.
'Vith these and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel features of construction and combination and arrangements of parts as more fully hereinafter .described` and claimed.
Referringto they drawings f, Figure lindi'cates a 4plan of the game board showing the marker in the starting position; l j
Figure 2 is a view ofthe kick olf die, and
Figure is a View 'of the line plunger die; Figure Il is a view ofthe. goal die. l y vIn the drawings reference character lAi indicates the game board Vwhich may be made of any suitable material, and marked to correspondto a football field, l() indieating the goals, ll the ten yard lines, and l2 the single yard lines. Preferably the board is marked off witha 5() yard line in the center and decreasing yard lines to each of the goals 10.
B indicates the marker which is a freelyv movable strip of suitable material and it is intended to represent the line of players.
C indicates an indicator or may be termed the kickoff die preferably formed of a plurality of faces 13 bearing different characters such as relatively large numbers representing the number of yards of advance by theside kicking off at the beginning of the game.
D represents a second indicator or the line plunger die preferably formed of a plurality of faces, fourteen being shown for purposes of illustration, bearing differ-y ent characters for indicating the movement ze, Y1925. serial no. 4,868.
that five yards are made; also a face marked 3L indicating three yards lost;v a face l5 marked No G indicating no gain. Thus a plurality of yardage gains and losses, as well` as no gain, maybe indicated on the sides of the die. i
E represents a third-indicator or a goal die formed of a plurality of faces -lG'preferably marked 3 or l The purpose of this die will presently appear. In playing the game the opponents X and Y may tossy a coin to determine which side has the kick off. Assuming that X wins the toss up and chooses to kick off, he places the marker B, which represents the line of players, at the 50 yard line and throws the kick off diev C which bears the relatively large numbers for example as 10 20, 30, etc., to 'TO. If for example, X throws the die C and the latter indicates 30 on its vupper face,l then` the marker is moved toward Ys goal a distance of thirty yards and- Y hasthe ball.' If more than 50 appears on thedie 1@the marker is placed on Ys twenty `yard line and the ball is presumed to be; retained by X. Assuming has thrownA a f 30 then the ball is on Ys 20 yard line and vY is presumed to have thenball. Y therefore throws the line` plunger die D moving the marker B each time towardV Xs goal adistance corresponding withv the characters on the die. Thus Y would, in accordance with realy football, have four throws of the die D (corresponding to four downs in real football) to advance l() yards for the first down.y If Y fails to so advance then the ball goes to X who endeavors to cross Ys goal by similar use ofthe die D.
Should either contestant advance to the thirty yard line of the other, then he can either continue using the plunger line die D in an effort to make a touchdown by crossing the others goal, or at the thirty yard line the goal die E may be thrown. Should a 3 be thrown then the indication is that a field goal has vbeen made, but should a l be thrown then the ball is forfeited to the other contestant. i
Aftereither side has made a touchdown the goal ball E is thrown by such party and if l is thrown then the indication is that the Vpoint after the touchdown has been successful. Y
The game may be divided into timed quarters in accordance with real football.
It is apparent that many modifications of my game may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention. YFor example, instead of employing dies, dials with spinningpointers or other indicating devices might be used. Also the dies might bear varying' characters and be provided with as many faces as desired. In general I have provided a simple football game affording plays on a game board corresponding to those which actually take place in a realfootball field.
lVhile' it is believed that 'from the foregoing' description, the natureand advantage of my invention will be readily understood.I I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of the claims.
What I claim as my invention is vl. A football game comprisingV aV game board marked with goals and yard lines to correspond with a realk football field, a marker for designating the [varying posi- 'tions of the players on the board, a kick off die formed with a plurality of faces bearing relatively large numbers indicating mining the successive movement of the marker toward one of the goals, and a goal die Yeach of said dies bearing characters directly indicating the successive movement of the marker.
Y 3. A football game comprising a game board marked with goals and yard lines to correspond with a real football field, a marker for designating the varying positions of the players on the board, a die bearing relatively large numbers for determining the advance of the marker in beginning the game, and a second die bearing relatively small numbers for indicating the yardage gain'or loss of the marker thereafter toward or from one of the goals.
a. A football game comprising a game board marked with goals and yard lines to correspond vwith a real football field, a marker for designating the varying positions of the players on the board, a die bearing characters indicating the advance of the marker in beginning the game, a second die bearing characters indicating the yardage gain or loss ofthe marker thereafter toward or from one of the goals, and a third die'bearing indicating characters and adapted to be used when the marker is on a predetermined' yard line for scoring a field goal.
5. A football game comprising a game board marked with goals and yard lines to correspond with a real football field, a marker for designating the varying positions of the players on the board, a die for determining the advance of the marker in beginning the game,` a second die for indicating'theyardage gain or loss of the marker thereafter toward or from one of the goals, and a third die adapted to be used after a goal has been made for scoring the point after the goal in accordance withreal football.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
