Abstract

1334259 Automatic train control GENERAL SIGNAL CORP 5 Aug 1971 [5 Aug 1970] 36921/71 Heading B7N [Also in Division G4] Decoding apparatus for selectively responding to a frequency-significant signal having one only of three characteristic frequencies, comprises a plurality of output relays controlled via filters, first checking means for producing a first checking output in accordance with the output of the filter corresponding to the actuated relay highest in a hierarchy in which the relays are arranged, and second checking means governed by the first checking output and by contacts of the relays for producing a distinctive output if more than one of the relays is actuated simultaneously. As disclosed, one of three frequencies is supplied to a train via coils 11 from the rails R, passed by filter and amplifier 12, and recognized by a respective one of three filters LC to energize a respective relay L, M or H to command a low, medium or high train speed respectively via contacts 13, 14, 15, these being arranged so that actuation of more than one relay causes the lowest of the respective speeds to be commanded. In addition, an "all-rate" relay AR is energized via contacts 16, 17, 18 from the output of the filter LC, and contacts 19, 20 of this relay AR and contacts 21-25 of relays L, M, H normally keep a relay CR energized. Relay CR is deenergized to apply the train brake if either (a) at least one of relays L, M, H is actuated but there is no output from the filter LC corresponding to the highest (in the drawing, i.e. lowest speed) of the actuated relays L, M, H, this de-energizing relay AR, or (b) if more than one of relays L, M, H is actuated, by virtue of contacts 21-25, irrespective of the state of relay AR.
