Abstract
1333959 Discharge devices; revaporization NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 27 April 1971 [30 April 1970 13 July 1970 22 July 1970 3 Aug 1970 4 Aug 1970] 11534/71 Heading F4P [Also in Division B7] In a vehicle safety device having a crash restraint bag 10 inflated by pressurized gas on collision of the vehicle, the gas supply unit includes a container 11 filled with a substance 12 maintained at a temperature such that it is immediately vaporized on opening the container 11. The container is sealed by a member 13 and connected to the bag 10 via a duct 14, the member 13 carrying an explosive charge 15 actuated to release the seal on collision by a senser 17. The container may be surrounded by an electrical heating element 21 and insulating material 22, supply to the element 21 being controlled by a temperature and/or pressure senser 25 and a thermostat switch 24. In other embodiments the container may be heated from the exhaust gases of the vehicle (Fig. 3, not shown) the flow of which is controlled by a thermostatically controlled valve, or by electrical heating elements forming part of the container 11 (Figs. 7, 8, not shown) or inserted into the interior of the container (Fig. 9, not shown).
